At Mt Dandenong Primary School, we offer an exciting specialist Japanese program led by our native speaking teacher, Mariko Sensei, which starts in Prep and continues through to Grade 6.

Students participate in weekly sessions in our special Japanese room, where students sit on cushions and use traditional ‘chabudai’ (low tables) to do their work.

Our program encourages students to learn the language and culture of Japan through a wide range of activities such as songs, games, art and writing Hiragana and Kanji.

A special part of our Japanese program is ‘Hanami’ in Spring, when we enjoy a whole school sushi lunch under our cherry blossom trees.
